How you can help

Girls from Oz is an organisation with a big future and we need your help.  It’s all about providing activities that will expand life experiences, create connections, encourage growth in confidence and increase opportunities for the many thousands of young people who have limited access to high quality education.

Our experience has shown that young people develop a strong sense of self-esteem, discipline and confidence as a direct result of singing, dancing, playing and performing with others – benefits that are then applied in their everyday lives in the community.

Since March 2010 we have been working with young people in the East Kimberley region; initially connecting with teenage Indigenous girls at Halls Creek District High School who lack opportunities to explore life outside of Halls Creek.  We have a dream that we can make a positive difference to the lives of many young people but for our initial project in the region we are aiming for a concentrated programme that sees us work specifically with young women who currently live in a community that is burdened by multi generational welfare dependence, alcohol and drug abuse, and violence. The elder women of the area are concerned about their girls, they have an aim to “grow ’em up strong”.  We plan to help them.

Alongside the work of g-oz, the g-oz foundation was set up to facilitate fundraising efforts. In 2010 and 2011, the foundation has funded two excursions by selected participants in the Halls Creek programme to Sydney to participate in the Australian Girls Choir’s end of year performances at the Sydney Opera House. So far fifteen girls have been funded to travel to the east coast.

As our programmes grow, so too does our need for funding.
